Saturdays, February 9 and 16,
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

JOURNALS DESIGNED FOR CREATIVE USE
Location: Transylvania Community Arts Council
349 S. Caldwell St in Brvard

This class is about the blank book as a tool for supporting creative expression. We will approach journal and sketchbook design in an uninhibited and spontaneous way using inexpensive and recycled materials, understanding that unlimited possibilities combined with striving for perfection can often result in a paralyzed artist. Students will share each other's art supplies and collected materials for cover design, learn about ripping a text block by hand and use the multi-needle Coptic stitch (a binding that allows the book to lie flat when open) to create a one-of-a kind journal or sketchbook. Instructor Annie Fain Liden has studied at the Nordjylands Idraeshojskole (Folkschool) in Bronderslev, Denmark, and is a long-time student of the John C. Campbell Folk School. She is a regular instructor at BookWorks of Asheville. Class fee: $100 for adults. $75 for students and TC Arts members.

Call TC Arts Council at 828-884-2787 to reserve your space today.
Class size limited to 10 students. http://www.tcarts.org

Transylvania Spay and Neuter Clinic
1 Ecusta Road
Pisgah Forest, NC (North Carolina) 28768
Phone: (828) 877-6624

I've had a number of cats spayed and neutered here and the cost is well below the vet's charge. I think it's around $50 or so. But the trick is getting an appointment. They are only open on Tuesday, and you have to call Noah's Ark first and schedule an appointment. Their number is 884-6600. Hopefully others will find this helpful as I really had to dig and scour the yellow pages and net to find this info. Best kept secret and it shouldn't be.
